About First Care Optical
First Care Optical was founded to bring calm, thorough eye care to people who find getting to a high-street optician difficult — whether because of mobility, dementia, recovery from illness, or simply the stress of transport and waiting rooms.
We are based in Coventry and visit patients at home across the Midlands, including Birmingham, Solihull, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton, Northampton, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and surrounding towns. If you are unsure whether we cover a postcode, call us and we will confirm.
Ranjeet (Randy) Bains, our principal optometrist, is registered with the General Optical Council (GOC 01-23736) and has 18 years' experience in domiciliary eye care. Where possible, the same optometrist sees the same patient on each visit, so examinations feel familiar and unhurried.
We hold an NHS contract for domiciliary sight tests. Patients who are entitled to an NHS sight test and cannot leave home unaccompanied because of physical or mental illness or disability may qualify for an NHS-funded home visit. We check eligibility with families before booking and handle the paperwork.
We also offer private home eye tests for households who prefer a home visit but do not meet NHS domiciliary criteria, or who simply want the convenience of an appointment at home.
Much of our work is with older people living at home and with care homes that need reliable, scheduled eye care for residents. We adapt examinations for dementia, low vision and complex communication needs, and we can supply and fit glasses during follow-up visits.
Families often contact us when they notice a parent's sight changing, when glasses no longer seem right, or when someone has become housebound after a fall or hospital stay. We take time to explain results in plain English and to involve relatives when the patient wishes.
