A free wellbeing talk your residents will love
"Healthy Vision & Ageing Well" is a free, friendly 30–45 minute talk for older residents, delivered in your own lounge or communal room by Ranjeet (Randy) Bains, a GOC-Registered Optometrist. Residents learn practical, positive ways to keep their eyes healthy, stay independent — and stay on their feet.
Why vision matters for falls prevention
Around one in three people over 65 falls each year — and poor or uncorrected vision is one of the most overlooked, most fixable risk factors. Many falls happen at home, on stairs and in poorly lit rooms, where small changes to eyewear, lighting and habits make a real difference. This talk gives residents simple, practical steps — in plain English, with plenty of time for questions.
What the talk covers
- Why good vision keeps you doing what you love
- How eyesight and falls are connected — and what to do about it
- Normal age-related eye changes vs. conditions that need attention (cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration)
- What your eyes reveal about your general health
- Dry, gritty eyes and simple remedies
- Lighting your home well
- Everyday habits for healthy eyes
- Warning signs that need advice quickly
- How NHS-funded home eye tests work for residents who can't get to a high street opticians
