What to expect during a home eye test
A First Care Optical visit feels calm, unhurried and personal. Here is exactly what happens, in order.
1. Booking — we run through the patient's history, NHS eligibility, and any mobility, dementia or communication needs so the optometrist arrives prepared.
2. The visit — the optometrist sets up a portable testing station in a comfortable room, usually at the kitchen or living-room table. Equipment includes an autorefractor, retinal camera, trial lens kit and chart.
3. The test — a full sight test covering vision, eye health, pressures and a fundus image. Adjustments are made for cognitive or hearing impairment as needed.
4. Results — explained in plain English on the day. A written summary is left with the patient and shared with their GP if helpful.
5. Glasses — if needed, frames are tried at home and the finished glasses are delivered and fitted in a follow-up visit.
