Our optometrist
Ranjeet 'Randy' Bains
Principal optometrist · BSc (Hons) MCOptom
Randy has spent 18 years providing home eye care across Coventry and the Midlands — unhurried visits for housebound patients, families and care homes, with a focus on dementia-friendly examinations and low vision.
Randy founded First Care Optical to bring the same clinical standards you would expect on the high street to patients who cannot easily travel to a practice. Every domiciliary visit is carried out personally, with portable autorefractor, retinal imaging and full trial lens kit.
Care home managers value the consistency of scheduled rounds, clear NHS paperwork, and follow-up glasses supply on-site. Families booking for relatives appreciate plain-English explanations on the day and written summaries they can share with GPs or other carers.
Randy medically reviews this website's clinical pages on home eye tests, eye conditions and care home eye care, and signs off updates before they are published.
He remains registered with the General Optical Council and keeps domiciliary-specific continuing education current, including dementia-friendly communication and low-vision rehabilitation updates relevant to housebound patients.
Outside clinical work, Randy supports community talks for retirement schemes and extra-care villages, focusing on falls prevention, lighting and when to book a sight test at home.
He welcomes feedback from carers and managers if any online guidance feels unclear — accuracy matters more than marketing polish.
