Randy Bains is a GOC-registered optometrist and director of First Care Optical, with more than 15 years of experience spanning domiciliary, high-street and hospital eye care.

He provides NHS-funded and private home eye tests for housebound patients, care-home residents, and individuals who struggle to attend traditional optical practices due to mobility, health or accessibility challenges. His work focuses on delivering patient-centred eye care within patients’ homes and care environments, with particular emphasis on elderly care, access to services, and continuity of care.

Alongside domiciliary practice, Randy has worked across a broad range of high-street and independent optical environments, including Vision Express, Specsavers and Boots, giving him extensive experience across different models of primary eye care delivery and referral pathways.

He also previously worked within the Hospital Eye Service at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, specialising in contact lens assessment and paediatric refraction. This provided direct experience of the interface between community optometry and secondary eye care services.

Randy is MECS accredited and has experience delivering enhanced primary eye care services, including community minor and urgent eye care. His clinical interests include domiciliary eye care, elderly patient support, care-home eye health, cataract pathways, accessibility in healthcare, and the use of technology to improve patient care and service delivery.

In addition to his clinical background, Randy holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Warwick and has a strong interest in digital systems, AI-assisted healthcare infrastructure, and operational improvement within community eye care services.

Through First Care Optical, his goal is to make professional eye care more accessible, reassuring and patient-focused for people who may otherwise struggle to access traditional services.
