Glaucoma
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve, usually due to raised pressure in the eye. Early stages are silent — only an eye test catches it.
Common symptoms
- Often no symptoms in early stages
- Gradual loss of peripheral vision in later stages
- Halos around lights in some cases
When to seek help
A sudden, painful red eye with vision loss is a medical emergency — call 111 or attend A&E. Otherwise, attend regular eye tests.
How a home eye test helps
A home eye test from First Care Optical includes the clinical checks needed to detect and monitor glaucoma. We use portable diagnostic equipment and adapt the examination to patients with mobility, cognitive or communication needs.
