People living with diabetes should attend NHS diabetic eye screening in addition to a regular sight test. Home eye tests support both pathways.

When to seek help
Sudden vision change, new floaters, or vision loss should be assessed urgently — call NHS 111 or attend A&E.
How a home eye test helps
A home eye test from First Care Optical includes the clinical checks needed to detect and monitor diabetic eye care. We use portable diagnostic equipment and adapt the examination to patients with mobility, cognitive or communication needs.
Results are explained in plain English on the day, with a written summary left for the patient and shared with their GP when helpful. If you care for someone who finds travel difficult, booking a domiciliary visit can be simpler than arranging transport to a high-street practice.
