NHS home eye tests, explained simply

The NHS funds home (domiciliary) sight tests for anyone who cannot leave home unaccompanied because of illness or disability. Here is how it works in practice.

Eligibility is set nationally by the NHS — your address does not affect whether you qualify.

Once eligibility is confirmed, the optometrist visits at a pre-agreed time, brings portable equipment, and runs a full clinical examination.

If glasses are required and you are eligible for an NHS optical voucher, the voucher value is applied to the cost of the glasses chosen.

There is no charge to the patient for the NHS home eye test itself.
