NHS & Private Home Eye Tests Across the Midlands

First Care Optical provides professional home eye tests for patients who are unable to attend a high-street optician. Our domiciliary eye test service is designed for individuals with mobility difficulties, long-term health conditions, learning disabilities, or those living in care homes. We deliver both NHS-funded and private eye examinations in the comfort of the patient’s own home. If you are looking for NHS-funded support, see NHS Home Eye Tests . If you prefer a private appointment, see Private Home Eye Tests.

What Is a Home Eye Test?

A home eye test is a full eye examination carried out in the patient’s own home using specialist portable equipment. It provides the same clinical assessment as a high-street optician, without the need to travel. For a step-by-step breakdown of what happens during the visit, see What to Expect.

Who Can Benefit From a Home Eye Test?

Home eye tests are suitable for patients who are unable to leave their home unaccompanied due to health or mobility reasons. This includes patients with reduced mobility, dementia, stroke recovery, Parkinson’s disease, learning disabilities, or frailty. For condition-specific information, see Conditions We Help With . If you are unsure whether a patient qualifies for NHS support, check Eligibility.

NHS Home Eye Tests

Many patients are eligible for NHS-funded home eye tests. If a patient qualifies for NHS support and is unable to attend a high-street optician, the examination can be carried out at home at no cost. Eligibility is assessed based on mobility, health, and living circumstances. See full details on NHS Home Eye Tests and Eligibility.

Private Home Eye Tests

Private home eye tests are available for patients who do not meet NHS eligibility criteria or who prefer a private appointment. This option is also suitable for families, care homes, or individuals requiring flexible scheduling or faster access. See Private Home Eye Tests.

Care Home Eye Tests

We provide specialist eye care services for residents of care homes, nursing homes, and supported living environments. Our optometrists work closely with care staff to ensure examinations are carried out safely, calmly, and with minimal disruption. See Care Home Partnership Services.

What Happens During a Home Eye Test?

During a home eye test, the optometrist will assess vision and eye health, discuss any symptoms or concerns, and check for common eye conditions. If glasses are required, we provide advice and can arrange supply and delivery directly to the patient’s home. For more detail, see What to Expect.

Glasses & Aftercare

Following the examination, we offer a full range of glasses suitable for home delivery. We manage the entire process from prescription to fitting, ensuring continuity of care and ongoing support. If you’d like to highlight this service, link to Glasses Supply & Home Delivery.
