First Care Optical works closely with care home managers and staff to deliver professional eye care for residents in a way that is organised, efficient, and minimally disruptive.
Step 1: Initial enquiry and planning
Care home managers or senior staff can contact our team to discuss resident needs, numbers, and preferred scheduling. We help determine whether residents are eligible for NHS-funded eye tests or whether private tests are required.

Step 2: Coordinating appointments
Appointments are arranged in collaboration with care home staff to minimise disruption to daily routines. We can schedule single visits or block bookings depending on the size of the care home and resident requirements.
Step 3: On-site eye examinations
Our optometrist visits the care home with portable equipment and carries out eye tests in residents’ rooms or a suitable quiet area. Examinations are conducted at a pace appropriate to each resident, with support from care staff where required.

Step 4: Results, advice, and referrals
Following the examination, results are explained clearly to residents and carers. Where necessary, referrals to GPs or hospital eye services are made in line with NHS pathways.
Step 5: Glasses supply and fitting
If glasses are required, we offer a full supply service, including frame selection, fitting, and delivery directly to the care home. Adjustments and aftercare can be provided as needed.

Step 6: Ongoing care and follow-up
We can support care homes with ongoing eye care by arranging regular visits, reminders for repeat eye tests, and continued support for new residents as required.
