NHS Home Eye Tests
First Care Optical provides NHS-funded home eye tests for eligible patients who are unable to attend a high-street optician due to mobility difficulties, health conditions or care needs.
As a Coventry-based domiciliary optometry service, we deliver NHS home eye tests across the Midlands, supporting patients in private homes, care homes and supported living settings.
Who Is Eligible for an NHS Home Eye Test
You may be eligible for a free NHS-funded home eye test if you meet NHS eligibility criteria and are unable to attend a high-street optician due to mobility difficulties, health conditions, or care needs.
You may qualify for an NHS home eye test, if you live in a carehome, or have mobility or health issues that make it difficult to attend a high-street optician, and if any of the following apply:
👵 You are aged 60 or over
💉 You have diabetes or glaucoma
👁️ You are registered as blind or partially sighted
👨👩👧 You are aged over 40 and have a close family member with glaucoma
💰 You receive certain benefits, including:
Income Support

Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
NHS eligibility is based on both clinical criteria and ability to attend an optician. If you are unsure whether you qualify, we are happy to advise.
If you do not meet this criteria, then a private home eye test can be arranged.
What Happens During an NHS Home Eye Test
During an NHS home eye test, our optometrist brings all the necessary equipment to carry out a full eye examination in your home. This includes: Vision and eye health checks Assessment of existing prescriptions or glasses Advice on eye health and visual needs The examination is carried out in a familiar, comfortable environment, without the need to travel.
If glasses are required following your NHS home eye test, we can discuss frame and lens options during the visit. Prescription glasses can be ordered and delivered directly to your home, making the process simple and convenient.
